Lead AI Platform Engineer

You will turn large-language-model (LLM) ideas into production services used by millions of customers. The job combines rapid prototyping with the discipline required for secure, compliant, high-traffic systems. You’ll guide an internal AI team, work side-by-side with an embedded squad at our client, and coordinate across legal, infra, product, frontend, and backend groups. You have an entrepreneurial mindset that uncovers and captures new business value.

This is a hybrid position based in Vienna. Candidates must already be based in Vienna or open to relocating with our support. You’ll have the flexibility to work from home, the office, and attend onsite client meetings.

Core Responsibilities

  • Prototype and Experiment – Build and test new AI/LLM agents, retrieval pipelines, and tool-enabled prompts. Run A/B tests and hackathons to find what works.

  • Bring Ideas to Production – Turn prototypes into reliable, monitored micro-services that meet security, privacy, and uptime targets (99.95 %+).

  • Integrate Systems – Connect legacy platforms with modern cloud stacks. Define clear interfaces and fallback paths.

  • Lead the Team – Provide technical direction and code reviews for engineers

  • Work Across Functions – Explain technical trade-offs to non-technical partners and keep legal, risk, product, design, frontend, and backend teams aligned.

  • Run Hackathons – Organise regular internal and external events; move winning demos onto the roadmap.

  • Ensure Compliance – Apply secure-by-design practices, maintain audit trails, and run red-team tests so regulators are satisfied.

  • Share Knowledge – Write technical posts, present at Ai events

Business & Strategic Impact

  • Uncover Opportunities & Build Business Cases - Propose proof‑of‑concepts that can be turned into features or completely new products for us to develop

  • Navigate Enterprise Politics - Map decision‑makers and influencers inside large client orgs. Build consensus, handle objections, and keep projects moving without being trapped in bureaucracy.

  • C‑Level Communication - Craft executive briefs and data‑driven decks that articulate vision, risk, and upside. Negotiate scope, timeline, and budget to secure executive sponsorship.

What we're looking for

  • Work in regulated or high-security settings (banking, fintech, health, government)

  • Clear written and spoken communication (docs, slides, live demos)

  • Strong backend/infra skills (Python or TypeScript, Docker, CI/CD)

  • Strong frontend development skills (React / TypeScript)

  • You have vibe coding experience but you know what you're doing

Nice to Have

  • Graph-based retrieval or agent frameworks (LangGraph)

  • Conference talks or open-source contributions in AI/ML or DevOps

  • German language skills for smoother collaboration
